Arbor View High School is a high school in northwestern Las Vegas, Nevada that opened in 2005. [1] It is part of the Clark County School District, in 2006 the fifth largest district in the United States. The school opened with 1,500 students, although it was designed for up to 2,700. As is typical in the district, the first year began without a senior class.
This High School was built at a cost of $54 million, with construction begun March 2005 and completed August 2005. At completion it formed the largest school in the district, with a campus area of 40 acres and four buildings with a total of 330,000 sq. ft. of floor space.[2] It is one of ten new schools opened in this school district in 2005, one of the fastest-growing school zones in the nation.[3]
Arbor View High School is an architectural prototype, featuring a mall-style design with four two-story corner "houses" and a shared central esplanade. The layout is intended to help foster the feeling of a "small school environment"[1], in the words of interim co-superintendent Walt Rulffes, even though it is by far the largest school in the history of the Clark County district. The structure is more energy-efficient than existing schools within the district.
The design for this school received a 2005 "AIA Nevada Excellence in Design Award" merit award for a completed structure.[4] The architecture was designed by the Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects.
Adding to it's expensive look and design, the school is one of three in Las Vegas that has an artifcial turf football field, it's a grassy style turf that is the exact type that is used in the NFL. To add to the Aggie football teams' success, the weight room in the school is exceptionally different by size and equipment. Many compare the the weight room to a College weight room, with York olympic weights and the total value estimated around $15,000. In the first two seasons however, the footbal team only had a total of 5 home games out of 19.
[edit] Athletics
--Football The football team coached in it's first two seasons by Russel Malloy moved a great amount, although not seemingly successful seasons, a great foundation has been set.
--Baseball The Aggie baseball team, Coached by Gary White, showed a large amount of success in the first season, making the playoffs, and expected much out of the following season, but found it to be a rough job, starting out with a 4-4 record early in the season.
