Talk:April

A quick Google search reveals that an etymology from Etruscan apru is also popular, and alluded to by some Roman poets; I'm adding that. Mustafaa 19:11, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Non-Tragedies
do we need to have pope john paul III's death as a tragedy? a lot of other popes died in april. but i dont think its a trajedy and I am removing it. Ols Dude - matt D
How is the birth of Christine DeWitt a tragedy? Who is this lady, anyway? I am removing the whole sentence. Later!!! 70.124.132.176 03:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have removed Pope John Paul II's death from list of tragedies along w/ Christine Dewitts birth. Neither constitute a tragedy. do not re-add them.--Matt D 21:40, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] calenderand
The words 'Calender' and 'and' have not been spaced apart. Someone please edit this as it's really annoying me.

[edit] Tragic month - can we lose this?
The 'Tragic month of April' section is a bit peculiar - none of the other month articles has a similar section, and it feels a bit tabloid-y and unencyclopaedic. Consider: any tragic event has a 1/12 chance of happening in April. I'd like to merge the important events in it into a new 'Historical events' section. I'll leave it for a few days before I do, in case anyone has any other ideas. Squeezeweasel 18:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's a couple of weeks since the comment above, and since nobody has objected, I've changed the section heading and removed the slightly weasel-y 'Tragedies', and have replaced with 'events'. Please add more cheerful April historical events if you find them! --Squeezeweaseltalk 20:38, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
First democratic elections in South Africa hardly tragic - only if you're a rightwinger. The elections were universally praised for their lack of violence or bloodshed.
Now that you mention it, the whole section does seem a little forced, unless there's a classic definition of April as a tragic month. I'm going to get rid of the opening of Fenway Park in the middle of all of the death and bloodshed, because I think that was just some NYY fan dicking around. DirkLangeveld 13:08, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

- I say lose it. Like squeezeweasel said it's a one in twelve chance. Can anyone say definitivly that april has some sort of cosmic energy that causes it to be tragic? Of course not. So why should it be in an encyclopedia? At most we could mention that april has a reputation for tragedies but a section listing out the tragedies is a little much.--Matt D 13:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
