[edit] Reporting police investigations and court cases

Please be careful when reporting news of police investigations and court cases. I've just reworded a bullet that made misleading statements about the investigation into the murder of Amy Williams. It is extremely important not to infer anything that is not explicitly stated in the source material, especially when a court case is or might be involved. The terminology used by police (and by trained journalists reporting these events) is carefully chosen to avoid accusations of prejudice should a court case follow. Several high-profile cases have been thrown out - and newspapers found guilty of contempt of court - because of prejudicial reporting. Thanks. -- Avaragado 15:00, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jerry Springer - The Opera

In true operaratic tradition many of the lines are repeated many times, thus increasing the number of profanities; but the claim that "Jerry Springer - The Opera" contains 3,168 "F-words" and 297 "C-words" is misleading because it is based on the fact that frequently many members of the cast are singing these words together. Thus in some cases 30 or 40-odd occurences have been counted when it is in fact one occurence sung by the entire cast. Jooler 10:10, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

You're right. I've updated the news item accordingly. -- Avaragado 11:30, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Recent Deaths

It's a bit sad that we have 4 red links on recent deaths here. Jooler 23:15, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Former colonies

Some of you who have distant blood-relatives in former colonies (ie at least 98% of you) may be pleased to see that I have added the city I am typing in, to the times box. Maybe one of you can improve the Commonwealth geographical spread by adding Ottawa, Delhi, and/or Johannesburg. But then the people of LA (a deliberate ambiguity) might want to be there too, and the box will start getting too big...

[edit] Rarely updated

This page seems to be rarely updated by Wikipdians anymore - is there a known reason for this?

People have just kinda lost interest in it; there's certainly plenty of content that could go in. It's a good page to have, but needs to have a few people who care about it. -- John Fader (talk | contribs) 22:46, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
