Aozora Bunko (青空文庫, the "Open Air Library") in Japan is a project similar to Project Gutenberg. It focuses on digitizing non-copyrighted texts under Japan's copyright law and distributing them for free. Most of the texts provided are Japanese literature and translations from English literature.

Aozora Bunko is seeking signatures to petition against extending the copyright protection for 20 years in Japan despite American governmental request to make the extension. (Information in Japanese)
