Contests like the Rose of Tralee contest constitute the values of a living culture and this article, while not earthshattering, records this facet of Irish culture.

This article shows how dreadful Wikipedia has become. What started out as a repository for useful information has become a repository has completely and totally useless information including this article. This non entity won a lovely girls beauty competition in a small town in the south west of Ireland a few years ago and hasn't seen or heard of since, that is to say she has vanished back into the obsurity from whence she came. Obviously she or her friends decided for a laugh to put an entry in Wikipedia so now her entry is longer than that of Mary Hanafin (Irish Minister of Education), a cabinet member and a polictian of note and possible future Taoiseach. Go figure!

Er . . . shows all you know, the girl was appointed as Irelands FAS Science Ambassador by the Minister for Education (Mary Hannafin) in order to help promote science and in particular to get girls interested in the subject as many are put off by the negative portrayal of science and scientists. She spoke and presented awards at the Young Scientists Exhibition and also gave a talk to the Women in Science group in Trinity College Dublin. She has appeared in numerous television and radio programmes promoting not just science and the Rose of Tralee competition but the Irish language, music and she's also helped to raise the profiles of the various charities that she's supported or become a patron of such as the Hope Foundation. A year on from being the Rose of Tralee, Aoibhinn continues to work in the media and has featured regularly on The Panel (alongside fellow physicist Dara O'Brian), in Irish language programmes on TG4 and has also featured as a guest on the interactive TV quiz special Test the Nation.

I don't agree on that. The Rose of Tralee contest is more than just a beaty pageant and she is, at least in my opinion, an ambassador (or should I use ambassadrice here) for Ireland. She was indeed, unknown before wining the contest, but so was every celebrity. Compare this humble article to the huge articles for Miss Teen USA and you will see that we kept this truly to a minimum. We did not include her measurements (it's not about that in the Rose of Tralee)and did not find it noteworthy to mention what she ate for Breakfast. The Rose of Tralee is a huge contest that attracts viewers from all over the world. This year,some US and some Canadian friends of mine went to the pub early to get seats. The Irish pubs all over the world are packed on this day and contestants come form every country the Irish have "colonised".

Well if we must have these silly articles then can the length of them be kept to a minimum? There is a tendency in wikipedia for articles to grow over time, so soon people will be adding in the name of her pet cat/dog when she was a child and how Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a heroine of hers. Less is more, people! Truman Capote put better: "I prefer the scisscors to the pencil". Btw, could the people who felt complled to edit this article at least stick to one spelling of her first name? I will not correct it because I will spend my precious time editing articles of note, ones the people will actually read!

I cannot understand why some people don't like less well known celebrities on wikipedia. Anyway, Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin is now on The Panel as a host and so obviously there is no question about whether or not she should have a page. I would really like it to be expanded, I came here looking for information on her after seeing her on The Panel last week.
