[edit] Welcome
Hello! Welcome to Wikipedia, Anton. Thank you for your fine work on Zero, One, and Negative one. Judging from the work you've done, it seems that your forte is mathematics; you can find plenty of articles in need of help in this field or others at Wikipedia:Pages needing attention.
You might find these links helpful in starting new articles or helping with existing ones: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

[edit] 119 (number)
Hi Anton
I hope you didn't see the rollback as offensive. I had little time to correspond yeterday and wanted to restore the astronomical data before forgetting.
My feeling is that any formally numbered information should be included here. As chemical numbers are deemed eligible, so therefore should numbered astronomical data such as Saros numbers and Messier/NGC notation. As a matter of fact, the reason I included these data is that I was searching for the Saros number related to last spring's lunar eclipse. I would be pleased to follow youyr suggestion and leave a suggestion with the Wikinumbers project.

Hi Anton -
Following is how I would like the guidelines to read. I've copypasted the standard guidelines for Number N and added (in bold) what I would add. Since I'm not a member of this committee and therefore feel hesitant about an ad hoc addition of these guidelines to the page, peerhaps I can prevail upon you as a committee member to do so. Thanks. These numbers are all standardized, and have been used for many decades to describe astonomical objects and phenomena.

Number N is also
The atomic number of elementium.
The atomic number of an element temporarily called LatinNumberium. (* If the element has not even been discovered, it should not even be mentioned. *) /br
The Messier Number of Object A
The NGC (New General Catalog) Number of Object A
The Saros Number of a solar (or lunar) eclipse series.
Considered lucky in Country A.
Considered unlucky in Country B.
Very important in Religion A's sacred texts. (* Better to let Wikipedians versed in theology decide which religious associations of a number ought to be included *)
The designation of Country A's Highway Route Number N, which runs from Point A to Point B. (* Only major highways need be included, unless they have achieved fame beyond their location. *)
The code for international direct dial phone calls to Country A.
The registry number of the USS/HMS/RMS ShipName, CVN-Number N. (* Only major ships, such as aircraft carriers and gigantic cruise liners need be included *)
In the expression "folksy expression with Number N".
In the title of the movie There's Something About Number N. (* Only major studio releases ought to be included. Include independent releases if they achieve fame comparable to a major studio release. *) In sport, the retired jersey number of legendary player Babe McGwire.

[edit] "Grand Self-Appointed Guardians of Wikipedia"
Now, that's trashy talk. Very unprofessional. We're all here to make Wikipedia better, and slinging this kind of mud around isn't helping anybody.
Urhixidur 01:04, 2005 Jan 24 (UTC)
- It is far more unprofessional to express a prejudice in a brief edit summary. Your use of the word "icky" communicates prejudice far more powerfully than any longwinded rant of mine.
- Anton Mravcek 17:58, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)
-
- I admit the choice of term was unfortunate. Summary edits were never meant to be anything but light-hearted comments, I thought. I'm sorry if it offended you so mightily.

[edit] Help
Hi, Anton. As a native English speaker can you, please, see Talk:Slovenians and say a few words about those matters. I would be very grateful for any help since we collaborate so long in Slovene wikipedia. I am a little bit sad because some users are not respecting works and contributions of other users. As I see, you are also using a term "Slovene" instead of 'Slovenian' as a native speaker :-) Best regards. --xJaM 00:11, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thank you Anton for your fast reply. I have decided to use those 'preferred' terms, which are propagated by BT2 and some other users (Nohat, ~) just for the sake of the order here and not because they persuaded me. I can say also that they do not respect naming conventions as many articles were at first written using term "Slovene". This was also some year before categories, so they also do not fit in this sheme. Best regards. --xJaM 19:14, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] One
You are right. I'm was just pissed off with my additions to that section being amended or deleted for their frivolity and their demanding a little from the reader. I must have forgotten that once I edit a page the text no longer belongs to me. I do think that that whole section is a bit ridiculous and have to restrain myself from posting an unbounded number of things in there. "One is 1/666 of the number if the Beast. One is half of two, and the ratio of one to the square root of two is the ratio between the lengths of the sides of a sheet of A4 paper. One is the number of thumbs on an average hand ..." where does one stop?
- I think a good rule of thumb is: if this tidbit that is true of the number 1 was true of some other integer, would it be worth mentioning at the article on that integer?
- These issues need to be discussed more thoroughly at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Numbers. Anton Mravcek 22:41, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Miles O'Brien
The journalist Miles O'Brien hosts American Morning on CNN, one of CNN's flagship shows. Internationally, CNN is still the #1 news network. Respectfully, Star Trek cannot even keep strong enough ratings to stay on the air. As for Homer Simpson, The Simpsons have won multiple emmy awards and are the most recognizable cartoon in television history. Miles O'Brien the journalist is more known (and real) than a character from a syndicated TV show that has been off the air for years. Now, I realize this is the internet where all sci-fi is universally beloved and worshipped, but this is an academic website...the CNN journalist is much more important. BigGuy219 19 August 2005
At point during the fun little move war you two had, you moved several pages via cut-and-paste. The mess you left behind was quit complicated - the history of "Miles O'Brien (journalist)" was half there, and half under "Miles O'Brien (Star Trek)", and the history of "Miles O'Brien (Star Trek)" was half there, and half under "Miles O'Brien (Star Trek character)". After an hour or so of work, I have cleaned this all up. Never, ever, ever move a page via cut-and-paste. If the "Move this page" button does not work, use WP:RM. [edit] Spartacus or Sabre Dance?
Did you watch the latest Family Guy episode, "Peterotica"? If so, could you check the title of the music referenced? Thanks in advance. Cromulent Kwyjibo 22:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- No, I haven't. I'll get back to you when they rerun it. Anton Mravcek 22:39, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Numbers
Sorry for my lack of knowledge in these matters. It was all due to unfortunate coincidences, since i took the bolded wordy form of subsection starters from 121 (number) and the capital M in maths from 182 (number)... :-s -- Jokes Free4Me 21:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- That's OK. If you're not entirely certain something's right, odds are someone will correct it and you can learn from that. In case of a disagreement, you can consult WP:NUM. Anton Mravcek 19:30, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Come and See reply
Yes, there was some speculation... but it was speculation based upon a reasonable extrapolation. Furthermore, he also deleted a valid rating from Finland (K-16) along with everything else. I think it would be the lesser evil to keep the paragraph, although perhaps it could be reworded... or moved to its own section. I still believe that the primary purpose of Wikipedia should be to provide usefull information rather than abide by its own rules. Of course, those rules usually work to this end, but in cases where they don't it's best to try to work our way around them if possible. As I said, if you feel that the section can be reworded to better comply with wiki policy, please do so. Esn 21:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Symphony No. 3 (Górecki)
Hi Anton, thanks for your instructive comment on the gorecki merge proposal - it was an error on my behalf i'm afraid, one of thoes late at night edits. I've since redirected the 'Symphony of Sorrowful Songs' article, aming to add Symphony no 2 and Miserere aricles shortly. Coil00 01:13, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Excellent. I look forward to the article on the "Kopernikowska." Anton Mravcek 17:59, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Number information request
Hi Anton. I noticed that you added the number infobox to 9814072356 (number) and I was wondering if you could please fill out the number inforbox at 144000 (number). Thanks! — Reinyday, 16:12, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Nevermind, someone else did it. Have a great day! — Reinyday, 23:30, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] question
Do you know anything about František Václav Míča? Plinth molecular gathered 22:16, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Not a thing. I'll put that article on my watchlist and look up the name in the New Grove. I can't promise anything more than that. Anton Mravcek 21:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] B flat etc.
No, I didn't discuss it with anyone else. In my experience, sharp or flat notes are almost always written "A flat", "G sharp", etc. I have loads of classical CDs and a fair amount of piano manuscript music, and hardly any of it places a hyphen between the letter and the word "sharp" or "flat" (or "natural", for that matter). I assumed that one person had written the articles using a less common variant that he or she considered to be the best option. Do you prefer the insertion of the hyphen? [edit] OEIS
Actually, I think the change is that sequences which are referenced more by other sequences are given higher weight. That's the "273" under the "+20" on the right of A000027. CRGreathouse (t | c) 20:23, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, so that's what that means. Thanks. I'm gonna have to reread the OEIS FAQ, I suspect there might be other things that need to be updated in our article on it. Anton Mravcek 14:57, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Finale screenshot
Thanks a ton for your new Finale screenshot; I loathe that horrid blue theme, especially for an OSX shot. SFT | Talk 19:07, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Glad you liked it. Actually, I didn't realize there were different 'themes' available in Finale. I'd be happy if it placed "arco" indications in the parts closer to the measures it applies to without my having to drag each one of them. Anton Mravcek 19:11, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mathematics article grading
I noticed your comment on the importance rating given to Znám's problem, and I was wondering if you would want to help out with on-going project to grade mathematics articles? Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Wikipedia 1.0 for details. Anyone can grade articles - there are no special requirements. Tompw 15:49, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- I would at least hope that whoever's grading importance knows at least a little something about the topic. I could help grade articles on various number theory topics, but I have no business grading articles about calc or trig. Anton Mravcek 17:32, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well, true enough, but the same applies to any article you edit. My poitn was that you odn't have to be an admin or go through any special selection process. Tompw 00:53, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] episode format
It was decided a few weeks ago in the discussions that the proper format when cleaning this pages up would be to alphabetize the categories, with the order cultural references, notes, trivia, then references 216.177.121.212 16:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Can you provide a link to that discussion or are you just making it up? Thought so. Anton Mravcek 16:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

- So an imaginary conversation is being held up as a guideline to laurel an anonymous user (some IP address) over a much more respectable logged-in user (Cromulent Kwyjibo) because of whom these articles exist in the first place? [edit] question
so what makes the current order you are putting things the correct way... Grande13 19:52, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
If you are so persistant on changing it to having notes first then maybe you should hold a group discussion on of the the talk pages, otherwise please change all 100 or so episodes and not just 20 or otherwise I'll revert the format to make sure there is one common format among all episodes Grande13 22:34, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mozart Symphony #37
Now that you've created all of these great new Michael Haydn symphony pages, it would be great if you could give Mozart's Symphony #37 its proper "Michael Haydn title" and add section in that article about how it used to be known as Mozart #37. I'm not enough of a Michael Haydn expert to do that. DavidRF 05:28, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] sparsely totient numbers
Thanks for letting me know someone else is looking at those pages. I update them very infrequently, but that article you edited should have disappeared from the list now. By the way, I have the script programmed to automatically not list the number articles, but there are quite a few of them that have no sources or external links sections. [edit] AfD nomination of Ada Dietz
An editor has nominated Ada Dietz, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ada Dietz and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it.
