[edit] What is a canard?
I had to do some searching to find out what a "canard" is, and in Wikipedia it took me to an aircraft wing. Shouldn't we just call it a "hoax"? -- Mapetite526 16:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Not really -- a "hoax" is something which is intentionally deceptive on the part of the hoaxers, and usually loses all force once the hoax has been exposed. Whereas many of the people who propagate and perpetuate "antisemitic canards" sincerely believe in their validity, no matter how often they have been refuted or debunked. - But the definition of "canard" is "a deliberately false story." So does canard really fit? -- Mapetite526 17:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Something which takes on a life of its own and drags on for decades and decades is not really a "hoax" anymore. If you have a better word, then suggest it, but "hoax" is not better. AnonMoos 18:03, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
