[edit] Character overview
Mitchell is a former drug kingpin who, having been released from jail after a lengthy prison sentence, tries to reinvent himself as an upstanding black community leader out to aid the black citizens of Farmington. However, he has secretly secured power as the main drug boss in the district, heading the fictional gang called the One Niners.
[edit] Relationship with police
Mitchell has a longstanding rivalry with Captain Monica Rawling, who was the officer that had arrested Mitchell previously on the drug charges that had sent him to prison. These two squared off at a community meeting regarding the new implementation of the seizure policy. It is out of this clash that the events of the fourth season unfold.
Detective Shane Vendrell, actively pursued a possible partnership with the drug kingpin. And with Shane on Antwon's payroll, he and his partner Army helped Mitchell eliminate his rivals and ultimately helped Antwon rise to his status at the head of the One Niners. However, not satisfied with simply paying cops do his dirty work, Antwon sought to dominate Shane and his partner. With his foot on Shane's neck, Mitchell took the policemen's guns and used them to kill an unarmed girl. The body is used to blackmail the two into killing Vic, who Mitchell sees as the biggest threat to his operation. However, instead of doing as he was told, Shane asked for Vic's help. After finding the body of the girl, using a hidden camera, they were able to catch footage of Antwon restating his "kill Vic and be released" blackmail to force Antwon to plead guilty to murder and attempting to order the death of a police officer.
[edit] Attempt at immunity
After helping David Aceveda kill a prison inmate, Antwon tries to free himself from his sentence by using information regarding the kidnap/murder of two police officers in his territory to get a DEA immunity deal without disclosing any information about the killings. However despite having the deal, it is ultimately voided when Antwon's rival, Captain Rawling, sacrifices her job to cancel the deal out, making sure that Mitchell gets his chance to rot away in a prison cell.
[edit] Prison life
Since his imprisonment, Antwon has risen to a place of power within the prison, essentially running it. He has also supported a revival of the fading One Niners gang and has even made attempts to run the One Niners from inside. He recently made a deal with IAD Lieutenant Jon Kavanaugh on giving up information on the Strike Team in exchange for one thing, their incarceration at his prison. However, he made a separate deal with Vic Mackey to provide financial assistance for the One Niners in exchange for Lem's protection in prison. The deal went through, but resulted unfavorably, only pulling in a small haul of cash. Combined with Kavanaugh's investigation of the prison system that put a cramp in Mitchell's personal comfort, Mitchell declared the deal off and vowed that Lem would be killed no matter what prison he was sent to. This statement leads Vic and the Strike Team to hide Lem in a trailer park. The heat brought on by IAD in response leads to Lem's death at the hands of Shane Vendrell.
