Antonio Pantojas

Antonio Pantojas (born November 25, 1948) is a famous theatrical actor from Puerto Rico.

Pantojas, who has admitted in public to being homosexual, was a controversial figure in Puerto Rico during the late 1980s, a period when homosexuality was being addressed on Puerto Rican television after decades of being considered a taboo topic. Pantojas did several television appearances to improve the image of gays and lesbians. In 1981, he married a friend from the Dominican Republic, so that she could obtain American citizenship. They were officially divorced in 1982.

Although mostly known for his theatrical jobs, Pantojas has also been featured in a number of television dramas in Puerto Rico. He is also a comedian.

Pantojas is well known around the island for his works as a transvestite on theatre. Many of his plays have received critical acclaim. He has also played non-transvestite roles.

One of his most famous plays is "Pantojas...de Cabaret".
