Antonio Núñez Jiménez

Antonio Núñez Jiménez (April 20, 1923 – September 13, 1998) was a Cuban revolutionary and academic. He was born in Alquízar, Havana Province. Núñez received his first doctorate from the University of Havana in 1950, and would later receive a second from the Lomonosov University of Moscow. In 1954, he authored Geography of Cuba, which would replace Levi Marrero’s Geografia de Cuba as a standard educational text in Cuba.
Núñez served as rebel captain in the forces of Ernesto Che Guevara. After rebel commander Humbert Sori Marin was executed in 1961 he took over the position of Minister of Agrarian Reform. Núñez’s died on September 13, 1998. His work is highly respected in Cuban government circles and his data considered official by some international agencies. [1]
