Antonio Núñez Tena (born 15 January 1979) is a Spanish football player who plays as a right winger. He currently plays for Celta de Vigo. He joined the club after returning to Spain in July 2005 after an unsuccessful stay at Liverpool.
Núñez started his career with Spanish side San Federico, before joining the third division side CD La Rozas. In 2001, he joined Real Madrid, his favourite football club as a boy. Núñez was Rafael Benítez's second signing as Liverpool manager, coming in as part of an exchange deal that saw Michael Owen transfer to Real Madrid for £8 million.Sadly Nunez injured his knee in his first day of training for his new club.He Would be out of action for 3 months.
He made his Liverpool debut as a substitute against Arsenal in a 2-1 win. The fans were unsure about him as he put in a few uncertain performances. Núñez scored his first - and only - goal for Liverpool against Chelsea in a 3-2 League Cup Final defeat, thereby becoming the only player in the history of Liverpool to score his only goal for the club in a major cup final. In his only season with Liverpool, Núñez won a UEFA Champions League medal as he was one of the substitutes in the Final (although he did not play in the game itself), and had played in some of the earlier rounds of the tournament. In the end, though, following a disappointing season disrupted by injury and poor form, Núñez transferred back to his homeland, joining newly-promoted Celta Vigo on 26 July 2005.
