Antonio F. Coronel

Antonio Francisco Coronel (October 21, 1817 Mexico City - April 17, 1894) Los Angeles mayor from 1853-54. He is credited with establishing the Department of Public Works. Prior to being mayor of Los Angeles, he was an officer in the Mexican army. After moving to Los Angeles in 1834, he worked as a schoolteacher, served as a city councilman (1854-67) and as state treasurer (1867-71).
