Antistatic wrist strap

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An antistatic wrist strap is a wrist strap with a metal contact that presses against the wrist. The contact is connected to a wire, and the other end of the wire is connected to an alligator clip. The alligator clip is attached to an electrical ground, typically the chassis of an electronic device being serviced.

Electronic components, such as microprocessors and memory modules, are very sensitive to discharges of static electricity. The diligent use of antistatic wrist straps and similar devices can prevent costly damage.
