Anthony Tohill (Irish: Antóin Ó Tuathail) is a former Gaelic footballer for the Derry senior football team. He won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal in 1993 with Derry and played club football with Swatragh.
Despite his role as the midfield anchor throughout his career, he is in the top ten all-time scorers in Ulster Inter county football, even though most of his playing was done at a time when all teams could expect a lot less matches than they do now.[1]]
Tohill won four GAA All Stars Awards, in 1992, 1993, 1995 (despite Derry only playing two Ulster Championship games) and 2000.
Tohill won two Hogan Cups with his school St. Patrick’s College Maghera. He also won a Sigerson Cup with Queens University Belfast in 1993.
Tohill played a prominent part in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship winning Derry team in 1989.
He was part of the Derry side which won the National League on four occasions in eight years (1992, 1995, 1996, 2000), where he captained the team in 2000.
Tohill also won five Railway Cup medals with Ulster.
In 2001, Tohill captained Ireland in their International Rules tour of Australia following many years of representing the country in the series.[2] He has since moved into the backrooms of the international setup, under manager Sean Boylan.[3]
Tohill also played for the League of Ireland soccer team, Derry City,[4] and had a trial with Manchester United in 1995, and played in the reserve side.[5]
