Anthony Stokes (entertainer)

Anthony Stokes (born August 22, 1983 in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA) grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina and is an American entertainer and activist.

Anthony has appeared on TV-One ("Get the Hook Up"), National Geographic Channel ("Lockdown"), in several stage plays (including "Footloose") and taped an ABC pilot ("Corpulent Power") in 2004. He has also starred in national commercials, including Burger King and Greenpeace.

A singer and songwriter, Anthony released his first demo ("Prelude") in 2005. The CD includes the singles "Where Are You Now" and "Make Me Kneel," which earned him a nod in Billboard's annual world songwriting awards. His music has been influenced by legends like Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder and Anthony has opened for several acts.

In 2004, Anthony won the title of Mr. University USA, beating out male college students nationwide. He traveled with Miss University USA, April Deller (of New York) to Seoul, South Korea to compete in the Mister & Miss University International Pageant. Anthony finished as a Top 5 finalist for Mr. University International and was a talent winner for his piano and vocal performance.

He spent his year as a national peace ambassador and spokesperson for organizations like People to People Student Ambassadors and the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Program. He also heads the award-winning nonprofit organization Red Posts Project, which works to reduce school violence. According to his website, Anthony hopes the organization can encourage children from his hometown to set high goals and avoid the juvenile justice system.

Anthony graduated from Duke University's nonprofit management program, and earned a degree in broadcast journalism and dramatic art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He is an alumnus of Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville, where he was student body president and the first Mr. Massey Hill. He also attended E.E. Smith High School and was a member of the "Smith 16" performance troupe. As a high school student, he won the state championship in original oratory and competed in the National Speech and Debate Tournament.

He currently resides in Washington, D.C. and New York and is working with producers on new music.
