[edit] Rape allegations

On March 6, 2007, New South Wales police charged Anthony Laffranchi with the sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman. Laffranchi professes his innocence, and has vowed to fight the allegations. The trial is continuing.[1]

The rape allegations came at a bad time for Australia's NRL, which has suffered damage to its image from a series of incidents involving demeaning behaviour to women over the previous five years.[2]
