Anthony Bolton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anthony Bolton (7 March 1950–), is one of the UK's best known investment fund managers and most successful investors, managing the Fidelity (UK) Special Situations fund since 1979. Over this 27-year period the fund achieved annualised growth of 20.3%,[1] far in excess of the 7.7% growth of the wider stock exchange.
Bolton was the subject of a biography (which included a 12,000 word essay from him), Investing with Anthony Bolton: The Anatomy of a Stock Market Phenomenon, by Jonathan Davis.
In 2006 his Special Situations Fund was split,[2] as the success of the fund had brought in so much money from investors, and had become the UK's largest fund, that it was feared that the fund was too big to manage successfully. The funds were split into UK and Global Special Situations funds, with the Global fund passed onto another manager and the UK fund continuing under Bolton's stewardship until his retirement at the end of 2007[3].
With Bolton's retirement, many have questioned[4] whether the fund can continue to outperform the market in future.
