[edit] About the AVCCD

The district oversees the Antelope Valley College main campus in Lancaster which has a student population of around 20,000 and the new satellite campus in Palmdale with an enrollment of over 500 students.

[edit] Palmdale Campus

The district has plans to construct a full size campus in Palmdale to ease the crowding at it's Lancaster campus, and to shorten the commute for South Valley residents. The location of this campus is still unknown as of 2007. There has been talk in the past about it being located on Barrel Springs Road at 47th Street East in East Palmdale, in a "proposed" master planned community called College Park, to be developed on land donated by the owner of Bushnell Binoculars, though this proposal comes and goes for various reasons.

[edit] CSUB Extension

The AVCCD has a partnership with California State University Bakersfield to offer bachelors degree courses at the Lancaster campus. A special section of the Lancaster campus, on the north side along Avenue J-8, has been lent to CSUB to create the CSUB Extension. Previous to the partnership, the metropolitan area was the largest in the state without "4 year university" classes. Currently AVCCD and the Cities of Palmdale and Lancaster are actively pursuing the California State University system for a full size four year university for the region.
