[edit] History

Anne Isobel McClymont 1901~1987

Anne McClymont's parents built a house in the Mission area which they named "Green Gables" in honour of their cousin Lucy Maud Montgomery, the famed author of Anne of Green Gables. This homestead was situated on what is now the site of Anne McClymont Elementary School. In September 1924, Anne moved to her parent's home, Green Gables, and started teaching at the Okanagan Mission Elementary School, which consisted of two rooms. Her teaching career spanned 39 years (1924-1963). For many of those years she was Principal at Okanagan Mission Elementary. She was known to always encourage students to reach for higher levels of achievement.

Next to teaching, Anne enjoyed many athletic activities such a golf, badminton, and basketball. During the memorable Kelowna Regattas she rowed in the war canoes. She excelled in golf, winning her first Kelowna Golf & Country Club championship in 1933. She won this championship so often that the Kelowna Golf & Country Club directors voted to give Anne McClymont the Collet Cup to keep!

Anne McClymont was truly an inspiration to many.
