"Animals" is the second U.S. single by Canadian rock band Nickelback off of their fifth studio album All the Right Reasons.
The song is about a guy (presumbly a teenager) who picks up his girlfriend. They proceed to have sex in the car acting wild like "animals," until the girl's father catches them in the act at the end of the song. It can be compared with one of the band's previous singles, "Figured You Out," in that it contains strong sexual overtones and metaphors.
The song was a radio only single, therefore a music video was not made. It did considerably well for a radio only single, hitting #1 on the Mainstream rock chart and holding it for 6 weeks, #16 on the Modern rock chart, and even managing to chart on the Hot 100 at #97. In Australia the single managed to rise to #27.
"Animals" is often cited as a fan favorite off of All the Right Reasons, even though most (particularly those outside the U.S.) do not realize it was released as a single. Many fans of Nickelback are disappointed that there will be no video to accompany this song and could see it being a worldwide success if released, but a worldwide release is highly doubtful at this point, especially now that the band is working on their next studio album. A possible explanation as to why a video was not made for the U.S. release of the song could be due to the sexually explicit lyrics, which may have made it difficult to make a video that wouldn't be banned by music networks such as MTV and VH1.
