Anglo Colombian School

Anglo Colombian School, better known in Spanish as Colegio Anglo-Colombiano, was founded in 1955, is a private bilingual school in Bogotá, Colombia, which teaches all three IBO courses, PYP, MYP, IB. The school has both British and Colombian staff.

It philosophy is written in Latin "Gentes Morescue Docento Uingumus"

The school works with all levels of learning, from pre-kinder to 11th grade. In the year 2005, the school was 50 years old. During the course of this year, a ceremony was held to commemorate 50 years of the Anglo Colombian School, by its Headmaster, Mr. James Stephen Walbran, BA MA FRSA. As from August onwards, the new headmaster is Mr. Alan Shanks, due to the departure of Mr. James Walbran for a job at the Vienna International School. The school also counts with organizations within the school community to improve the school life. Recently the school has named Mr. Alan Shanks as the new official rector for a minimum of 5 Academic years.

The school works with seven years in this section, 5th to 11th, divided into two sub-groups, middle school and upper school. The middle school sub-section is composed by years 5th to 7th while upper bach is composed by years 8th to 11th. During these years, the school counts with two IBO programmes: MYP and IB. The MYP (Middle Years Programme) covers years 5th to 9th, where students, potential IB Diploma candidates, are prepared for the IB course taking place in the last two years of high school. The MYP section is directed by Andrew Johnson, whilst the IB section is directed by the Mrs. Maria Clara Janer and Mr. Alan Shanks.

As the culmination of the Anglo experience, the Upper School requires seventh through eleventh grade students to meet both demanding scholastic standards and increasing expectations for independence, responsibility, and leadership.

The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking in mathematics, cultivating communication skills through critical analysis of literary and historical narratives, and providing a global perspective for interpreting world events. On this level, Anglo students have developed a sense of ownership of how and what they learn. They are fully prepared to demonstrate this capacity; opportunities abound for debate and public speaking. The advisor system supports Anglo students in their intellectual endeavors, keeping an eye on expectations and achievements, helping students strike a healthy balance between them.

[edit] Pre-school (Lower School)

The school's last section is pre-school, divided in three sub-levels: pre-kinder(Nursery), kinder (pre-kinder) and transition (kinder).

Established almost 10 years ago, the lower school visitors will notice a cheerful hum of activity as they enter the Lower School. Whether entering the library, the computer lab, the book publishing center, or the music and art classrooms, they will see children happily engaged in their learning.

One of the first schools to introduce English at an early age, The Anglo remains a leader in offering an innovative curriculum centered on language development, with academic skills integrated around thematic learning topics. An integrated learning approach quickly engages children and allows faculty to maximize creativity using cutting edge teaching methods and resources. Spanning the first three years of a child's education, the Pre-School program places great emphasis on developing rigorous academic foundation skills, as well as athletic, social, and emotional development. Each classroom is a small community, and each child an important citizen with responsibilities and privileges.
