Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM)

Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) or the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement was founded in 1972 and is considered the most organized force in Islamic revivalism in Malaysia.
Some of its major objectives have included establishment and propagation of Islamic tennets and principles as enshrined in the Quran and Sunnah of Muhammad and mobilization of Muslim youth. The group has been highly critical of the Malaysian government over issues relating to alleged corruption, abuse of power, and Westernization. To help combat these issues, the group advocates making Malaysia an Islamic state.
Many ABIM activists have occupied key leadership positions in religious, social, educational, and political arenas, giving it access to affect policy directions and the intensification of the Islamic ethos in the country. One of the most influential figures in the party is the former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
