[edit] Plot

Dave Buznik (Sandler) is a businessman who works for a pet clothing company out of New York City. He's got a boss (Kurt Fuller) who frequently takes credit for his work, and steps on him in return. He's got a loving girlfriend (Marisa Tomei) whose best friend is her college ex (Allen Covert), who always takes potshots at Dave, and he's got a problem of letting things slide by because of his pacifist nature. But when a misunderstanding aboard an airplane goes haywire, Dave is sentenced to anger management therapy, headed by Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson). An unpredictable character, Buddy takes a special interest in his newest patient by virtually taking over his life: living with him, following him everywhere and embarrassing him whenever provided. As the relationship between Dave and Buddy gets tense, it's Dave that may seriously need to look at himself, and Buddy might be the only one who can save him from a problem that's only getting worse.

[edit] Trivia

  • The U.S. Military is advertised a few times in this movie, due to a prominent "Army of One" billboard outside Dave's loft.
  • Arnie Shankman's Buddhist name in the movie is Hanapananika, misinterpreted as "peanuts" by Nicholson and "onomatopoeia" by Sandler.
  • In one of the final scenes of the movie, we find Dave and Linda atop the train station from Yankee Stadium. However, they are on the wrong side as they are on the uptown side, which takes them further into the Bronx.
  • The film that Buddy Rydell is watching on the plane is Tomcats starring Horatio Sanz.
  • Buddy picks up a golf club and a baseball bat before choosing the baseball bat to smash the window of the Lexus. In 1994, Jack Nicholson was cited for smashing a man's window with a golf club after he cut him off.
  • Adam Sandler's character Dave wears a Central Pride t-shirt in a scene of the movie. The t-shirt is from Central High School, a school in Manchester, New Hampshire which Adam Sandler attended.
  • The cat Meatball modeling the clothing shares the name of Sandler's former dog.
