Angelique the Witch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Angelique was a character played by Lara Parker on the cult TV Gothic horror-soap opera Dark Shadows, which aired from June 1966 through April 1971. Angelique is known for being the evil witch from the 1795 and 1897 storylines of the show. She also appeared in the 1840 storyline, wherein she assumed the name Valerie Collins. The character also appeared in a flashback to the year 1692, in which she was known by her original name Miranda DuVal. Angelique was the mortal enemy of the show's anti-hero Barnabas Collins, with whom she had a tempestuous love-affair, and who she later turned into a vampire as a punishment for his rejection of her. It was in the 1840 storyline, that Angelique (Valerie) is stripped of her powers and is merely human. After she saves Quentin Collins from beheading by exposing the real warlock, Barnabas realizes that he has loved Angelique all along. However, he is never able to tell her because she is killed by the evil mortician, Trask.

Angelique was also an antagonist in the present-day storyline, beginning with shows that first aired in 1968, in which, donning a black wig, she pretended to be graduate student Cassandra Blair who married Roger Collins but still practiced witchcraft in order to thwart Barnabas and other members of the Collins family. During this storyline, she was turned into a vampire by warlock Nicholas Blair. The character also appeared later on the show in 1970 as Angelique Rumson, wife of wealthy publisher Sky Rumson (Geoffrey Scott]]).
