"Angel Eyes" is a song written by John Hiatt and Fred Koller. The song was first recorded by Jeff Healey as the first song released from his 1988 debut album See the Light (see 1988 in music). It was first released as a single in 1989 (see 1989 in music) and peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and twenty-four on the Billboard 's Mainstream Rock Tracks.
Australian Idol contestant Paulini released the song on July 2, 2004 for a debut song released from her debut album One Determined Heart. The song made its debut at number two on the ARIA Charts on 11 July 2004. It initially debuted at number one until ARIA discovered that a Sydney DJ had bought 100 copies in one transaction, disqualifying 99 unit sales and bumping her out of the top spot, making fellow Australian Idol contestant Shannon Noll's song Learn to Fly. A week later the song officially reached number one on 18 July 2004 and stayed their for three consecutive weeks and also stayed in the top ten for over three months. The music video shows Paulini walk down a road and into a building and then behind a stage before proceeding out and singing to an audience of clapping fans.
