[edit] Tutankhamun
I reverted your edit to the article on Tutankhamun because I believe that most people who visit the article are looking for information on the Egyptian pharaoh. Your essay on your dealings with Wikipedia might be appropriate for your user page, which appears to be empty at the moment. Michael Slone 08:24, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
Andropolis, I know you've only been here for a month, and made a couple of dozen edits - but this sort of thing suggests you have really not grasped the basics of how Wikipedia works as a community. This is quite simple: if you make changes to an article that others disagree with, you need to persuade people that you're right (see my discussion on this issue with another user at Talk:Akhenaten). This applies both to content and style/format, particularly when the style is the one usually used on Wikipedia. In the interests of keeping articles reasonably stable, the status quo wins by default unless you can persuade to the contrary. That may involve simple argument, or getting additional external data to support yur views, or recruiting other editors if you think some people are being unreasonable (eg at Wikipedia:Requests for comment). I will respond to your specific points on Talk:Tutankhamun - but don't give up on Wikipedia too easily. Also, vandalising pages, as you did Tutankhamun, is unacceptable whatever your frustrations. Rd232 09:31, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
Hi RD, please make whatever changes you like. I'm not an expert; my interest in the subject was piqued as I read an old copy of "Treasures of Tutankhamun," and the recent National Geographic article. I've since devoured several books and remain keenly interested. The text here seemed to lack excitement -- especially the excitement I felt evoked by some of the books I've read lately (viz. "The Discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun," Dover pub. 1977). I tried to instill some of that.
But every entry at Wikipedia is subject to the potential for total anonymous elimination. So I'm apathetic about it now; I will not resist you or anyone else. If you can cope with the intrinsic nature of Wiki, by all means, go on.(Andropolis 11:20, 23 August 2005 (UTC))
[edit] [1]
You seem to have some deeply thought out views on Wikipedia, but your talk or userpage is a more appropriate place to air them. Overwriting pages such as Islam with a rant on how Wikipedia is too easily to vandalize isn't really making a statement, it's just exacerbating the problem. Collabi 09:01, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
I agree, you do make some intelligent and valid points. Of course we won't keep them on the Islam article, but if you sign up, even creating an account just for that rant, and post it on your user page, people may read it, link to it, and/or discuss it. dab (ᛏ) 09:31, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
I'm not going to disturb pages anymore -- so rest easy, my friends. There's no reason to contribute when all is lost to the mists of history and whim. (Andropolis 11:20, 23 August 2005 (UTC))
- But it isn't lost. I improved the intro on Tutankhamun based on your contribution. Rd232 08:51, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
Whatever you say -- I'm not putting anything up there myself. I might suggest the addition of certain facts in "Discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb," including that more than 32,000 (thirty-two thousand) artifacts were found (among them SIX chariots), and that it required ten years to fully exhume. Again, I wouldn't try to foist them on the page on my own. (Andropolis 13:55, 24 August 2005 (UTC))
- That's up to you. Feel free to make suggestions on talk pages if you don't want get involved with editing. Rd232 13:33, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Mick_Jagger_Young.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Mick_Jagger_Young.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 02:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Psusennes_I_Mask.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Psusennes_I_Mask.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Plate LXXA.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Plate LXXA.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 13:40, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
