Should we also put the BBC article on this page? The one that's here now screams tabloid sensationalism all over, and though I'm not doubting the authenticity of the story, the constant CAPITALIZATION for emphasis weakens its reputation.

This guy, who was going to give us the cure for AIDS, seems to have disappeared back off the map. Can anyone update? Is he helping out medically? Or is he back to making sandwiches somewhere?

After a cursory search, I am unable to find any sources confirming that Stimpson has accepted further testing, as is stated in the article. Can anyone confirm this? -- Zelphar 07:49, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, DAILY MAIL (London) quotes him as saying, "I will do everything in my power to help with research into finding a cure. It is a huge responsibility." DAILY MAIL (14 NOVEMBER) pg.7 --LV ^{(Dark Mark)} 16:26, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm... well the Birmingham Post says:

But Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust, who carried out the initial tests, said Mr Stimpson has so far declined to undergo further tests with themA spokeswoman confirmed Mr Stimpson had had a positive and a negative test for the virus, but she stopped short of saying he had been cured.

She said: "I can confirm that he has a positive and a negative test.

"I can't confirm with you that he's shaken it off, that he's been cured. When we became aware of his HIV-negative result we offered him further tests to help us investigate and find an explanation. So far he has declined to do so. We urge him, for the sake of himself and the HIV community, to come in and get tested. If he doesn't feel that he can come to Chelsea and Westminster, then he should please go to another HIV specialist." (Birmingham Post 14 NOV. pg.10)

Andrew Stimpson was born on august 3rd 1980, in greenock, He was diagnosed positive on aug 20th 2002, he had 2 positive results,Because he had 2 equivical results leading up to the positive results, both positive results were test 9 times each using different tests in 2 different hospitals and every result was positive. Fourteen months later he was diagnosed negative and had four subsequent negative results over a period of 6 months, All his blood has been re-tested and all the results are still the same. This week he has seen a doctor called Dr.Pozniak who has given him further tests and he has found out he is still negative, now they want to do immunoligy tests to find out what is special about him.

How does this article qualify as a stub for a Scottish person biography? I propose that the stub status be removed, considering that a biography is certainly not just an outline of one specific aspect, and furthermore, that the present content of this article is not connected at all to the person's Scottish background.

Seconded, the article seems more than informative and includes several external references to back it up. I've removed the stub and added a few more bits of info and another reference. - Whilding87 10:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] negative status especially surprising?

Unless anyone objects, I am going to remove the “which made Stimpson's negative status especially surprising” reference. Such a comment gives the impression that unprotected anal sex with a positive person would be a foregone conclusion .. when in fact there is something like a 6.5 in 10,000 risk of infection from each such exposure (even less when, as is the case with Stimpson’s partner, the infected person is already the recipient of HAART therapy).

The suggestion that the negative status is "especially surprising" can be nothing more than the personal opinion of the writer. Orpingtonian 16:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
