Andy Aitken (footballer)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andrew "Andy" Robert Aitken (born 2 February 1978, in Dumfries) is a Scottish professional footballer who plys his trade with Scottish First Division side Queen of the South. A left sided central defender, he has also previously played for Annan Athletic and Gretna.

A true Queens man, he returned to the fold following two seasons of missionary work at Gretna, and immediately brought some pace to the defence and helped make a back three work for the side for the first time in a number of years of trying. In combination with Stuart Lovell and Jim Thomson the Annan lad managed to secure one of the tightest defences in the league over the last three months of last season.

In pre-season 2006, Aitken sustained a knee ligament injury in a friendly match against Coleraine that has meant a lengthy spell on the treatment table.
