Andy is predominantly a diminutive version of the male given name Andrew, based on the Scottish "ie" diminutive ending. It is derived from the Greek name Andreas, meaning "man". It is also occasionally used as a dimunutive for the female given name Andrea, the Portuguese and Spanish feminine version of the name Andrew.
