Andrew Sentance

Dr Andrew Sentance became an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England on 1 October 2006.

[edit] Qualifications

Sentance was educated at Eltham College and Clare College, Cambridge. He gained a PhD from the London School of Economics. He holds a visiting professorship at Cranfield University and is a former Chairman of the Society of Business Economists. He is also a member of the Commission for Integrated Transport which advises the UK Government on transport policy issues.

Sentance previously held the following positions:

  • Head of Economic Policy (1986-88) and Director of Economic Affairs (1989-93) at the CBI.
  • Director of the Centre for Economic Forecasting, London Business School
  • Chief economist and head of environmental affairs at British Airways, 1998-2006.

[edit] Other Government work

Sentance was a founder member of the Treasury’s Panel of Independent Forecasters which provided advice to the Chancellor of the Exchequer during the Conservative Government in the 1990s. He has also acted as a government adviser on official statistics and corporate social responsibility.
