Andrew Selous

Andrew Edmund Armstrong Selous (born 27 April 1962) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is Conservative Party Member of Parliament for South West Bedfordshire. On November 7th 2006 he was promoted to Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions. He was first elected in 2001, and had previously contested Sunderland North seat in 1997. He is a director of the Conservative Christian Fellowship. He was educated at the London School of Economics. For several years he was a member of the Territorial Army, in Two Squadron, Honourable Artillery Company.
Relied upon an assurance by Lord Goldsmith the British Attorney General(Hansard,Iraq: Legality of Armed Force 17th March 2003),who "Has clearly advised the Government that the military campaign in Iraq is clearly legal"-(Selous,31st March 2003.)
Andrew Selous MP voted in favour of the military campaign in Iraq based upon the assurances of the Attorney General as to the legality of the action,Lord Goldsmith later retracted his advise to the British Government.
