Andrew McGahan (born 1966) is an Australian novelist. Born in Dalby, Queensland, the ninth of ten children, he was educated at the local school and then at Marist Brothers for years 11 and 12. He commenced an Arts degree at the University of Queensland but dropped out after only one month to return home to work on the family wheat farm.

His first novel, Praise, won the Australian/Vogel Literary Award in 1991, a success that launched him on a full-time writing career.

Considered one of Australia's finest young writers he has worked in a variety of genres and been successful in each of them.

He currently lives in Victoria.
