Andrew C. Porter

Andrew Calvin "Andy" Porter, Ph.D. (b. July 10, 1942) in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania is an educational psychologist and psychometrician who has made significant contributions in education policy. Most notably, he has written about student assessment, accountability, standards-based curricula, and quality teaching. A past president of the American Educational Research Association [1], Porter is currently a faculty member of Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. As the Patricia and Rodes Hart Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy, Porter heads the Learning Sciences Institute at Vanderbilt, a university-wide center focused on stimulating interdisciplinary research in the learning sciences [2]. On August 1, 2007, Porter will become the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education [3]. He obtained his B.S. in education from Indiana State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
