[edit] History
The band formed after Steve Naghavi and Chris Ruiz met in 1989 at a Berlin club. Being fans of early EBM music, Naghavi and Ruiz decided to follow in the footsteps of Synth-pop band Depeche Mode by using two keyboards and a beatbox. The duo became a trio with the addition of Alex Two, prior to the release of their debut album, Anguish. Going into the release of Anguish they had already garnered a decent following through touring and appearances at various parties. With their debut release they took home the "Best New Artist" award in Germany in 1991. While Naghavi is still with the band, Ruiz left in 1992. The band is now comprised of 4 members: Steve Naghavi, Joke Jay (replacing Ruiz), Rick Schah (replacing Two) and Annelie Bertilsson. And One has released on two different record labels, leaving Machinery Records for Virgin Records around 1996-97. While label/distributor Metropolis Records currently handling portions of their distribution.
[edit] Bodypop
On February 21, 2006, And One announced that their next album, Bodypop, was to be released on September 1, 2006 by Out of Line (Europe) and Metropolis Records (US) [1][2]. The single Military Fashion Show preceded the album.
[edit] Themes
The members of And One have firm convictions about war. This is evident in light of the release of the single, Aus Der Traum in 1991 with portions of the proceeds going to Greenpeace. In 2001 after the terrorists attacks against the United States on September the 11th, And One released the single Amerika Brennt (America Burns). An MP3 of this song was made available as a free download on the bands website. The bands home-page had also been changed to display a picture of a baby wrapped in an American flag. During the time immediately following the 9/11 terrorists attacks it was a common phenomenon for websites to display a patriotic American symbol as a gesture of solidarity.
The albums typically have similar sayings on the inside covers which begin with "Vielleicht ist es so".
