Trial by Jury is when a panel of citizens decide what facts occurred relating to a lawsuit. The jury then decides how the law should be carried out.

This idea of Trial by Jury came from Ancient Greece. All the people in Athens were involved in the government of the city-state. People age thirty and older were expected to do jury duty. The jury would decide if a person was guilty or innocent. In ancient Greece, there were no judges or lawyers. The citizens controlled their own cases in the courts.
