[edit] Name

Why is it called a "Congo eel" if it resides in the southeastern United States? -Alex, 12.220.157.93 22:57, 6 March 2006 (UTC).

Because people come up with all kinds of local nicknames. Amphiumas are also called "Conger eels" in some places, which is an actual species of marine eel. MFuture 22:53, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
