[edit] History

The minor district (King Amphoe) was created in 1907 as a subordinate of Mae Prik district, the present-day district Mae Suai. It was upgraded to a full district in 1932.

[edit] Administration

The district is subdivided into 7 communes (tambon), which are further subdivided into 92 villages (muban). There are two townships (thesaban tambon) - Wiang Pa Pao covers parts of tambon Wiang, and Mae Khachan covers parts of tambon Mae Chai. There are further 7 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
