[edit] History

The minor district (King Amphoe) Phra Yuen was established on September 14 1976 by splitting some part of Mueang Khon Kaen district. On January 1 1988 it was upgraded to a full district.[1]

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Ban Fang, Mueang Khon Kaen, Ban Haet and Mancha Khiri.

The district is subdivided into 5 communes (tambon), which are further subdivided into 46 villages (muban). There are two townships (thesaban tambon) - Ban Ton covers the full tambon Ban Ton, and Phra Yuen covers parts of tambon Phra Yuen. There are further 4 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
