Maybe. But his appointment was unconstitutional. Aoun was leader according to the constitution. There is no "debate" about it. Rm uk 09:15, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Maybe. If you know the history of the time period (you probably know it better than I do), it wasn't exactly a clean clear cut situation. The Civil war was coming to an end, but it was not finished. It is a fact that the National Assembly appointed René president. As far as I know he was technically qualified to fill the post according to the Constitution. Anyone has a right to disagree with what they did (Obviously some people disagreed strongly enough that they killed him), but we can't rewrite history because we think it was wrong. The first spelling is adopted here, but the second also appears to have some validity, perhaps in other languages. Could someone who understands the usage add a short comment? - Earthlyreason
