From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

American Loyalists were those colonists who choose to side with England in the American Revolution. It is estimated that as much as one-third of the population of the American colonies harbored loyalist sentiments.

Approximately 20,000 to 30,000 loyalists took up arms in the British army, serving in the Royal Provincial service.

After the war, many loyalists were forced in exile to Nova Scotia.
