American Society of Consultant Pharmacists
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) is the international professional association that provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to advance the practice of senior care pharmacy.
In their role as medication therapy experts, consultant pharmacists take responsibility for their patients’ medication-related needs; ensure that their patients’ medications are the most appropriate, the most effective, the safest possible, and are used correctly; and identify, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems that may interfere with the goals of therapy.
ASCP has gained attention recently because of its leadership role in dealing with problems with the implementation of Medicare Part D, and because of ASCP's deep involvement with medication-related issues affecting the elderly and nursing homes.
ASCP was founded in 1969 and is based in Alexandria, Virginia. It holds two major conventions each year at various locations and hosts numerous other events for health care professionals throughout the year.
ASCP publishes The Consultant Pharmacist, a monthly, peer-reviewed, scholarly journal which is indexed in MEDLINE.
