American Small Business League

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Small Business League is a national non-profit organization that advocates for policies that provide the greatest opportunity for small businesses – the 98% of U.S. companies with less than 100 employees. Based in Petaluma, CA, Lloyd Chapman formed the organization in 2004 after discovering that billions of dollars in small business government set-aside contracts were going to some of the world's largest companies.

Today, the ASBL monitors existing policies and proposed policy changes by the Small Business Administration and other federal agencies that affect its members, and helps coordinate any response required to safeguard the interests of small businesses.

ASBL's top priorities are:

  • End abuses and close loopholes to ensure the intent of the Small Business Act is carried out and that small businesses really benefit from programs established to help them.
  • Promote the interests of companies with 100 employees or less, the key to a vital American economy.
  • Educate the public on both the benefits and influence of small businesses as well as their true needs and conditions affecting how they operate.
  • Reverse policies that have hurt small businesses seeking contracts with local, state and federal government.
  • Support policy makers who help small businesses and oppose those who do not.
  • Ensure that the Small Business Act is enforced and that the “fair portion” of federal contracts set aside for small businesses, currently 23 %, is increased.
