[edit] History
The precursor to AIS/D was the Dacca American Society School (DASS), founded in approximately 1952, while Bangladesh was still East Pakistan. DASS closed during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, and AiS/D was founded in 1972.
At its founding in 1972, AIS/D was housed in a single building located in Gulshan, serving a small population of international students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
The current school is located on a 4-acre site in Baridhara, a residential area of Dhaka, serving pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.
[edit] Enrollment
At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, enrollment was 650. Of the total, 149 were U.S. citizens, 70 host-country nationals, and 431 third-country nationals.[1]
[edit] Curriculum
Instruction is in English, and the curriculum is reflective of a college-preparatory U.S. school. The national and cultural diversity of the student body and faculty, in combination with Bangladesh itself, interact to add extra dimension to the curriculum.
[edit] Accreditation
AIS/D is recognized and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and by the Council of International Schools. [2]
