American Financial Group Incorporated (NYSE: AFG) is a holding company based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Originally incorporated as the "Great American Holding Corp.", in 1969 control of the company was acquired by Eugene V. Klein's Los Angeles-based National General Corp. and in 1973 the firms merged.
American Financial Group's major insurance division operates as the Great American Insurance Company, founded in 1872, which has given its name to the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, the home of the Cincinnati Reds. In 2004 it was ranked 486th on the Fortune 500 list. It is owned principally by Carl Lindner and Family and at one time was the parent company of many companies including Taft Broadcasting.
