American Decency Association
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The American Decency Association is a religious organization based in Fremont, Michigan.
Founded in 1999 by Bill Johnson, former director of the American Family Association and before that a Christian minister and teacher, the A.D.A. website states its mission is "to educate its members and the general public on matters of decency; to initiate, promote, encourage and coordinate activity designed to safeguard and advance public morality consistent with biblical Christianity." Specifically, the major goals of the A.D.A. are to eradicate:
- the showing of nudity and sex on television
- sexually suggestive magazine articles and covers that are shown in supermarkets
- Howard Stern and other similar radio and television personalities
- the teaching of sex education in schools
- policies that promote homosexuality
The A.D.A. organizes media campaigns and national boycotts of corporations that, through their products, sevices or advertising, promote values contrary to the A.D.A's beliefs. They also sell educational resources (books, videos and tapes) for a suggested donation.
