American Council of Trustees and Alumni

The American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) was founded in 1995 by Lynne Cheney. Cheney is no longer actively involved in the organization. In November 2001 it released a report titled Defending Civilization: How Our Universities Are Failing America and What Can Be Done About It.

Current members of the national council of ACTA are: Jacques Barzun, William Bennett, Chester Finn, Georgie Geyer, Irving Kristol, Richard Lamm, Hans Mark, Philip Merrill, Martin Peretz, Laurence Silberman, William Tell, Curtin Winsor, and Herman Wells.
Former members of the national council include: Saul Bellow, Joseph Lieberman, and David Riesman.
