American Beauty is a 1999 soundtrack album to the film of the same name starring Kevin Spacey (who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as "Lester Burnham" in this film), Annette Bening, Thora Birch, Wes Bentley, Mena Suvari, Chris Coooper. The soundtrack features two excerpts from the film's score, composed by Thomas Newman. It also features an a cappella version of the Beatles song "Because," performed by Elliott Smith.
The album won the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media. It was also nominated for the Academy and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
