America³

America³ (pronounced "America Cubed") is a racing syndicate that vied for the America's Cup in 1992 and 1995. The program was operated by Bill Koch and sailing legend Harry "Buddy" Melges in the 1992 America's Cup. After winning the Challenger Series, America³ defeated the Italian challenger Il Moro di Venezia.
In 1995, Bill Koch revamped the program to begin the first all-female, America's Cup boat. The Team was on its way to the 1995 America's Cup, in the lead of the last race of the Challenger Series over Stars & Stripes. Unfortunately, on its way to the finish line, the mast broke in half. Stars & Stripes sailed past the helpless boat to win the race and move on to the 1995 America's Cup. The third Challenger syndicate that year, Young America loaned their boat to Stars & Stripes for the race. The yacht now resides at the Wichita Boathouse in Wichita, Kansas on permanent display outdoors.
