[edit] The Girl With The Secret

Original Airdate: September 22, 2004

The 34 semifinalists meet in Los Angeles and have a pool party to celebrate making it that far. Deciding to have a bit more fun, some of the girls trek out to a local hotspot where one semifinalist gets into a bar fight with a local, and is disqualified for violence. This happens to be Tiffany Richardson, who later went for anger management classes and re-auditioned for Cycle 4, and was successful.

Later on, the girls have one-on-one introductions to the judges and a cut is announced where 14 out of the 34 girls are eliminated, leaving a final 20. A second cut soon after eliminates 6 more girls and the final 14 is revealed.

[edit] The Girl Who Is Co-Dependent

Original Airdate: September 29, 2004

The final 14 are flown to Jamaica for their first photoshoot, where they meet their director of photography for the season, Jay Manuel, and are told to pose in swimsuits against the backdrop of the Jamaican shoreline.

The next day, the girls learn that they would be flying back to the States for the remainder of the competition. They receive an envelope containing air tickets with individual girl's names printed on them. Magdalena is the first ever girl to be eliminated outside the judging panel, being eliminated on the spot when she does not receive her ticket.

Once they land, the girls proceed to their first official judging and elimination panel, where the weak photos of Leah and Ann cause them to fall to the bottom two, where Leah is found to be more "plain Jane", and is eliminated.

  • Eliminated outside judging panel: Magdalena Rivas
  • Bottom two: Ann Markley & Leah Darrow
  • Eliminated: Leah Darrow
  • Special guest(s): J. Alexander, Michelle Mock, Douglas Barcellos
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Eva Pigford

[edit] The Girl Everyone Thinks Is A Backstabber

Original Airdate: October 6, 2004

During this episode, each girl was given a new look. Some makeovers were drastic - Jennipher was told that her waist-length hair would be cut and donated to Locks of Love, and Amanda was transformed from a brunette to an ice blonde. For that week's shoot, each contestant was challenged to take a beauty shot without any make-up. Julie Titus, a young woman of Indian descent, was eliminated. In addition to a weak photo, she had revealed during judging that her motive for being on the show was not to launch a modeling career but rather to gain an edge in fashion manufacturing, her true passion.

  • Bottom two: Julie Titus & Kelle Jacob
  • Eliminated: Julie Titus
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Yaya Da Costa

[edit] The Girl Who Sets A Trap

Original Airdate: October 13, 2004

In the next episode, the remaining contestants were fitted with hair extensions and shot an advertisement for Lee (Jeans) wearing nothing but the product. Kristi was cut due to her lack of confidence.

  • Bottom two: Jennipher Frost & Kristi Grommet
  • Eliminated: Kristi Grommet
  • Special guest(s): J. Alexander, Yoanna House
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Yaya Da Costa

[edit] The Girl Who Cries When She Looks In The Mirror

Original Airdate: October 20, 2004

For the next shoot, each contestant posed on roller skates to advertise Dooney & Bourke accessories. Jennipher was eliminated as the judges felt she was not delivering strong enough photographs.

  • Eliminated: Jennipher Frost
  • Featured photographer: Simon Doonan
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Toccara Jones

[edit] The Girl Who Mutilated The Precious Brownies

Original Airdate: October 27, 2004

Kelle was the next contestant to be ousted after a high-octane shoot jumping on a trampoline next to a cargo plane for an energy drink.

  • Bottom two: Ann Markley & Kelle Jacob
  • Eliminated: Kellie Jacob
  • Special guest(s): Kate Dillon
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Toccara Jones

[edit] The Girl Who Forgot Her Shoes

Original Airdate: November 3, 2004

Earlier in the show, Cassie had revealed to Amanda that she suffered from bulimia, and her secret had subsequently spread to all of the contestants as well as to Tyra, who offered counseling to Cassie, but she refused help and chose to continue living with bulimia. Cassie was cut after her lackluster performance in a photo shoot for Ford Mustang automobiles, in which each contestant posed twice to represent dual identities in their respective characters.

[edit] The Girl Who Is Panic Stricken

Original Airdate: November 10, 2004

In the next shoot, the contestants would pose for beauty shots advertising diamonds, but, much to the horror of many contestants, notably Eva, they would be posing with a tarantula. In the end, it was plus-sized contestant Toccara who was ousted in this episode. Though she had entered the competition with a good deal of enthusiasm and confidence in her body, the judges felt that she no longer had the "plus-sized personality" to potentially break barriers in the modeling industry.

  • Bottom two: Ann Markley & Toccara Jones
  • Eliminated: Toccara Jones
  • Special guest(s): Rebecca Weinberg
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Toccara Jones

[edit] The Girls Meet Taye Diggs

Original Airdate: November 17, 2004

The remaining contestants - Yaya, Nicole, Norelle, Ann, Eva, and Amanda - were then told that they would be traveling to Tokyo for the remainder of the competition. For their first challenge, they were assigned to shoot a commercial for Campbell's Soup - in Japanese. Though each contestant struggled with this challenge, redhead Nicole was this episode's eliminated contestant for not being sufficiently noticeable.

  • Bottom two: Nicole Borud & Yaya Da Costa
  • Eliminated: Nicole Borud
  • Special guest(s): Taye Diggs
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Eva Pigford

[edit] The Girl Who Goes Ballistic

Original Airdate: November 24, 2004

This was the recap episode of the cycle.

[edit] The Girl The Lionesses Are Hunting

Original Airdate: December 1, 2004

The next contestant to be sent home was Norelle, who had compiled an impressive portfolio. However, she had struggled in Japan and was eliminated despite her strong performance in a photo shoot for T-Mobile, in which each contestant posed in a traditional kimono with a cellular phone.

  • Bottom two: Ann Markley & Norelle Van Herk
  • Eliminated: Norelle Van Herk
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Eva Pigford

[edit] The Girl Who Didn't Hug Goodbye

Original Airdate: December 8, 2004

The eleventh episode of the season featured an anime-themed shoot to reflect a part of Japan's modern culture. Ann was cut at panel because, though she was a natural beauty, she had often struggled to translate her looks into a strong photograph. This episode is named for Ann as she didn't hug her best friend Eva, due to an argument the same week. However, Ann and Eva appeared as close friends on in "Where are they now" after the cycle ended.

  • Bottom two: Ann Markley & Eva Pigford
  • Eliminated: Ann Markley
  • Special guest(s): J. Alexander, Toyohiko Mikimoto
  • CoverGirl of the Week: Eva Pigford

[edit] The Girl Who Wins It All

Original Airdate: December 15, 2004

In the finale of Cycle 3, Amanda Swafford, Yaya, who had had enjoyed many consecutive challenge wins, and Eva went head-on in the Covergirl photo shoot. Amanda was eliminated first, leaving two African-American females as the remaining two contestants. Though Yaya's final runway performance and consistently strong portfolio impressed the judges, her less-than-humble attitude on several occasions did not. Instead, Eva, who had overcome the handicap of being the shortest contestant, had a stunning portfolio, and stood out with her personality, was declared the third winner of America's Next Top Model.

  • Bottom two: Amanda Swafford & Eva Pigford
  • Eliminated: Amanda Swafford
  • Final two: Eva Pigford & Yaya Da Costa
  • America's Next Top Model: Eva Pigford
  • Special guest(s): J. Alexander
