An ambassadorial residence is where an ambassador lives. In many cases it is in the same building as the embassy. Like embassies, such residences are considered inviolable--however, contrary to popular belief, neither embassies nor Ambassador's residences are considered the territory of the Sending State. The residences of high commissioners have the same rights. Ambassadorial residences play an important role in diplomacy by being home to a variety of social events.
